The Cyprus Centre for Environmental Research and Education (CYCERE) is a non-profit educational and research organisation that promotes cross-disciplinary strategies in environmental research, environmental education and environmental awareness. CYCERE has established national, European and international collaborations within its area of expertise including Environmental Citizenship, Environmental Education, Sustainability, Green Cities and Citizen Science. CYCERE is involved in various National and European competitive research programs such as Horizon, Erasmus+, Cost Actions etc. CYCERE coordinate and chair the European Network for Environmental Citizenship (ENEC) (funded as COST Action) which is consisted from 88 universities and research institutes and more than 160 academics and researchers from 39 countries. The European Network for Environmental Citizenship (ENEC) aims to improve understanding and assessment of environmental citizenship in European societies and participating countries. Environmental Citizenship is a key factor in EU’s growth strategy (Europe 2020) and its vision for Sustainable Development, Green and circular economy, Climate Neutrality and Low-carbon society (EU-roadmap 2050). In addition, CYCERE established since 2017 the Green Cities and Green Communities Awards and coordinates and chair the PanCyprian Network of Green Cities and Green Communities. The Centre established with success also the Pancyprian Environmental Awards for Organisations and Enterprises. The two awards are awarded every year in the Precedential Palace from the President of Cyprus and constitute the country’s highest environmental distinction.
