By supporting the high-level conference “Climate-Neutral Blue Cities by 2030: Accelerating Local Change under the EU Cities and Ocean Missions – Η Λεμεσός στην Πορεία για την Κλιματική Ουδετερότητα”, organised by the Municipality of Limassol under the auspices of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026, exhibitors contribute directly to advancing the objectives of the EU Missions on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities and on Healthy Oceans, Seas and Waters.

Participation in the exhibition area offers organisations a strategic platform to present innovative solutions, policy tools, technologies, and services that support climate neutrality, resilience, and sustainable blue urban development. Exhibitors will have the opportunity to engage with EU institutions, national and local authorities, port authorities, financial and innovation actors, and research organisations.

Why Exhibit?

Exhibition booths provide a structured and visible setting to:

Limassol is Cyprus’s vibrant Mediterranean hub on the island’s southern coast—a seaside city that blends a walkable historic core, a lively waterfront with a modern marina, and easy island-wide access via comfortable motorways. It is a major maritime and business center anchored by Cyprus’s principal seaport and a dynamic visitor scene of restaurants, venues, and year-round cultural life, from the famed Carnival to the Wine Festival, alongside nearby beaches, vineyards, mountain excursions, and archaeological sites. Following Cyprus’s local-government reform (1/7/2024), the expanded Municipality of Limassol now counts 115,527 residents (population density 2,954 per km²). Limassol’s Climate City Contract, awarded the EU Mission Label in November 2023, serves as the city’s roadmap to climate neutrality and smart-city transformation by 2030, turning ambition into a coordinated portfolio of projects across mobility, energy, the built environment, the circular economy, coastal areas, and digital transformation.

NetZeroCities is a consortium consisting of 34 partners from 13 European countries, managing the EU Cities Mission Platform. NetZeroCities supports the 112 European cities selected to join the Mission in drastically reducing their greenhouse gas emissions to achieve climate neutrality.

NetZeroCities works as a service-oriented platform supported by world-class practitioners to help cities overcome the current structural, institutional and cultural barriers they face in order to achieve climate neutrality by 2030.

NetZeroCities aims to enable European cities and citizens to show the way forward towards an inclusive, thriving, climate resilient and sustainable future. To do so, it tailors advanced capabilities related to systemic change, citizen engagement and democratic governance, capital and financial structuring, and social innovation, to ensure cities have access to the best expertise available anywhere in the world.

The PROTEAS Facility is the largest research infrastructure in Cyprus. It is devoted to research, development and testing of Renewable Energy Sources with emphasis on Concentrating Solar Thermal (CST), Thermal Energy Storage (TES) and thermal Desalination of Sea Water (DSW) for bridging the gap between fundamental research and industrial needs.

PROTEAS is a multi-purpose facility built around a central hub of molten salt Thermal Energy Storage (TES), hybridised with batteries and other forms of storage. The facility is capable of poly-generation of heat and electricity using renewable energy technologies (CST, Wind, PV) and integration of these energy technologies with the TES, batteries, and seasonal water storage. Optimal solar radiation and environmental conditions are monitored via a state-of-the-art BSRN station. PROTEAS is complemented and enhanced by the Thermal Energy Storage Lab (TESLA) at the main Campus of CyI at Athalassa where instrumentation, controls and studies on suitable materials are also conducted.

The Sustainable Energy Laboratory (EnergyLab) of the Cyprus University of Technology conducts applied research on sustainable energy systems, entrepreneurship training, and the decarbonisation of the built environment and maritime sector. At the conference booth, the laboratory will showcase two ongoing projects addressing this transition in the construction sector. BuildSkills Academy, an Erasmus+ project,  aims to upskill the construction workforce through vocational education and training by integrating green and digital skills into construction-related programmes. CABE (Circular Approaches for the Built Environment), which is funded by the Cyprus RIF under the Driving Urban Transitions Partnership, explores circular economy solutions for construction, promoting resource efficiency, sustainable material use, and innovative practices that support the shift towards a low-carbon and circular built environment.
